“Be assured that our individual actions, collectively, make a huge difference”- Jane Goodall

Are you under 30 and passionate about taking action on climate change? Do you want to help create a better future from the comfort of your own home and with other like-minded people? Do you want to use your voice to hold your local and national decision-makers accountable?

Join this free, guided workshop and become part of a collective movement to demand positive change on climate and environmental issues in your community.

Across the world, young people are often underrepresented in political decision-making despite future generations being directly impacted by today’s decisions. To redress the balance and amplify young voices on climate change, we’re inviting 18–30-year-olds to write a ‘postcard for progress’ to those in positions of power and influence.

This event is being held as part of the Climate Coalition's Great Big Green Week 2024, the UK’s biggest-ever celebration of community action to tackle climate change and protect nature #GreatBigGreenWeek. Why not volunteer just one hour of your time to make a difference on a climate or environmental topic that you care about?

By the end of our workshop, you’ll:

  • Understand the importance of letter-writing and influencing through writing/artwork, and feel empowered to take your action into the offline world
  • Produce a 'postcard for progress' with both written and illustrated elements and be ready to send this to your chosen decision-maker
  • Meet and connect with like-minded people
  • Have the opportunity to submit your 'postcard for progress' to our online gallery, where your words will form part of an exhibition of 100s of postcards from around the world

Everyone is welcome to join us, from any country or background! You can be an experienced campaigner or a complete newbie to the movement; a practising writer/artist or just taking your first steps into artistic responses to the climate crisis.

We’re committed to making our workshops as accessible as possible for everyone, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch if there’s anything we can do to make this space more welcoming for you.

Please note: participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

About Create the Future

Create The Future is a youth-led creative climate project that seeks to create a vision of a better future to empower action and inspire optimism through storytelling, education and imagination activities. Our work is based on the research of leading environmental communications agencies such as Climate Outreach and the Common Cause Foundation.

We run free activities and workshops for all ages, including creative writing workshops, communication training sessions, and school activities. Our flagship 'postcards from the future' activity, an imaginative art and writing exercise for children aged 5-12, helps to combat eco anxiety by helping young people to imagine the future they want to see and send a postcard back to parents, teachers and community members.

We have also published a 100+ page anthology featuring short stories, poetry, artwork and interviews, with wide-ranging contributors including Octopus Energy, Rewilding Britain, the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, Lammas Ecovillage and more.
